Self-Assessment Assignment – Fall 2020

I demonstrate my understanding of the rhetorical concepts and the goals that I have understood and achieved. Through this course, I learned what is a rhetorical situation, the meaning of rhetorical and many things about race. The rhetorical context for me is to describe the purpose of the article, the audience, the author’s opinion, and the content of the article around the article and the author. I think through this, I can understand the article better. In addition, it can help readers think deeply about the information in the article. I have achieved many goals from this course, such as improving my writing ability, experience, and adapting to the pace of university learning. The first Course Learning Outcomes that I learn from this course is practice systematic application of citation conventions; For example, “If global GHG emissions are not reduced, heat waves will affect 74% of the world’s population by 2100…” from Climate Change and the Individual(Scholarly source). So, I’ll use quotes and citations to analyze and explain the information. The second outcome is to recognize and practice key rhetorical terms and strategies when engaged in writing situations; For instance, “The purpose of this article is to tell people about the in-depth information and the impact of global warming…The audience of this article is the people who like to use social apps…” from SBE. I use rhetorical situations to explain the author’s point from different sources. Last is to locate research sources in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias. I write rhetorical situations that are surrounded by different sources such as academic journal articles, magazines, and newspaper articles.

The goals that I have not achieved is to go back to school and meet new friends. To demonstrate that I have developed “reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing,” I would want to include, perhaps, annotations from your bibliography or copies of the notes you took while reading to demonstrate that you have developed flexible strategies for reading. To demonstrate that my drafting process has changed and improved, I wrote a rewrite for SBE. It is because I didn’t particularly understand the specific requirements of this assignment at first. In the beginning, most of the articles I wrote were written around the topic of my article (global warming), rather than the purpose of the authors of these articles, audience groups, etc. But through the professor’s corrections and reminders, I realized this assignment’s purpose and what rhetorical situation is. I start to understand how to use rhetorical context to describe these articles more accurately. Moreover, I like how this class is discussed every week to interact with classmates and professors even if we can’t meet each other.

So, these reviews and significance can help me to improve my writing. I think this can share ideas and get some command also. This semester is almost over and I learn a lot from different courses even though it’s online classes. I haven’t addressed all of the course learning outcomes because there is still work that I have to do. There are some that I feel I did not spend enough time to work on. I provided evidence, in the form of my writing, that I have developed as a writer. It is because I think my writing skills have improved. So, I’ll able to identify areas in which I have not progressed because I feel that I had a strong start in those areas.
